DMV snags continue post-pandemic

Titles continue to process slowly as DMVs reopen

As we begin to ease back into our post-COVID routines, we are reminded that not everything is “as was.”  It’s a different world now and those of us who seek a retro lifestyle will linger for all eternity.  Institutions, industries, and governments have all changed the way they do things and DMVs are no exception.

DMVs across the nation are experiencing staff shortages, office closures, and backlogs like never before.  It’s a nightmare, and left in its wake are the remnants of once-thriving businesses.  What took weeks to process, now takes months and there seems to be no relief in sight.  Dealerships, including mobile home dealers, have been hit the hardest, some even going out of business due to massive delays in DMV title services.

Any process in which a title is involved can be arduous simply due to the number of state and local laws specifically involving the reassignment of property’s ownership. Going through this only becomes more frustrating once you add limited staffing at local DMV offices, ensuring the correct forms are filled out, double-checking VINs and making sure your title documentation isn’t rejected at a local office with an already slowed turnaround.

In Illinois for example, driver service facilities were closed through an extension in early December which lasted into 2021. Upon reopening, individuals seeking any number of services were met with staggering lines and long waits. The lines may be shorter in length as the pandemic becomes less of a pressing issue, but the backlog of documentation that needs to be processed with a limited staff still remains. Additionally, several facilities still remain closed in the Chicago area. Similar situations can be found around the U.S. where DMVs that operate on a local level are strapped for the personnel needed to process a sea of backlogged title transactions.

At Snickfish, we know where the hurdles are on a state-by-state and county-by-county level. If the jurisdiction requires a specific format for documentation or needs to be expedited, we’re ready to meet that challenge because we’ve met it consistently during and before the pandemic. Our job is to provide concise and succinct solutions to an ever-challenging landscape of title transfer situations. And the best part is: You will know what’s going on every step of the way.
